You Are Now Entering Free Garbatella

Large grafitti mural on a concrete wall at the end of the street we live on. Rome has a HUGE grafitti problem. Most of it is ugly and senseless, as far as I can tell, but I like this. Confusingly, it's in English. I've researched a bit, but I haven't been able to figure out its signifigance.

  1. Ahhhhh the old Sharpe tag....

Sadly all who know Roland recognise this tag as he sprays this liberally upon his closest street corner with every move of address...

We've discovered the best thing to do is to smile and go along with it, it's some sort of ancient gaelic freedom motto and he gets very upset talking about knowing where people live and kneecaps and stuff if you kick up a fuss......

  2. Upon research, the very trusted and legit WIkipedia states: "Garbatella is the urbanization 11c 's XI Hall of the municipality of Rome. It is part of the neighborhood QX Ostiense."..

Well duh Wiki. Captain obvious..I could have told you that, been there a million times...

  4. Hi Amy,

I came across your blog while looking for pictures of this mural. Could you kindly tell me what street it's on? Please write back to me at future_primitive82@yahoo.it --- Cheers!
